Burgundy Tour - FAQ
Note: We will send you detailed information about the tour in a
Pre-Departure Packet once you register.
What is the weather going to be like?
In Lyon, the closest city for which we have historical weather information, the average high
in June is 73 degrees Fahrenheit while the low is 57 degrees. It can rain during the day but is generally sunny. Therefore, you should
be prepared for warm days and cool evenings with the possibility of a shower.
Which time of the year is best to go there?
Burgundy is a major tourist attraction. The advantage to visiting in June
(and September) is
this is before and after prime season and the crowds will be lower. Combined with the weather, June
and September are both outstanding periods to travel.
What is the best way to get to the tour and where do we meet?
We meet in the town of Chalon-sur-Saone in the heart of Burgundy. We will provide you with the
name of our hotel in case you want to arrive one day early. You can fly into either Paris or
Geneva. The advantage of Geneva is that it is a small airport with a train station right in the
airport; you can take a train directly to Chalon-sur-Saone. The advantage of Paris is ... Paris. It
is a bit more difficult to negotiate but well worthwhile. We will provide you with a suggested
hotel in Paris and details on getting around.
What should I do if I want to extend my vacation in the area?
If you really want to extend your vacation, our first Burgundy tour runs in sequence with our
Switzerland Multisport Tour. You could really make a great vacation by booking both. Paris is a
fantastic place to extend your vacation and offers the Friday Night Skate, which with 12,000
participants every week is an awesome event. We don't really recommend staying in Geneva as it is
more business and government-oriented. However, there are a number of beautiful French alpine towns
in the area that are easily visited by car. Chamonix is the most-known example.
What ability level do I really need to be for this tour?
This tour is rated for
Advanced Beginners
and up. The skating is entirely on mostly-flat, paved trails. The bicycling is on paved (with
occasional dirt) side roads of minimum traffic. The hiking is on country lanes and dirt paths
through hills and vineyards. We offer two or three routes each day regardless of activity so you
can choose your own exertion level. Additionally, for non-skaters it is possible to bike on the two
days we skate.
For what type of people would you recommend this tour?
This is a perfect Tour for those wishing to blend skating with other activities while on
vacation. It is also a good tour for someone who enjoys skating but has a non-skating partner or
friend! Finally, it really is a perfect tour for anyone wishing to see the vineyards of France.
