Florida Tour - FAQ
Note: We will send you detailed information about the tour in a
Pre-Departure Packet once you register.
What is the weather going to be like?
In St. Petersburg near our tour location, the average high temperature in December is 71
degrees Fahrenheit while the average low is 55. In March, the average high is 75 while the average
low is 60. It can rain at times but we are not in the rainy season and, if it does rain, it tends
to shower and then leave. Sound perfect for skating in the winter?
It is!
Which time of the year is best to go there?
December is an excellent time to be in Florida as it is before the main tourist season and the
temperatures for skating are usually excellent. In March, the high temperatures are a bit warmer
and this makes for a more sun- and beach-oriented vacation. Both dates are outside the rainy
season.
What is the best way to get to the tour and where do we meet?
We meet in the Tampa Airport on the first day of the tour. Tampa is easily accessible with
usually-cheap fares from many US cities. If you are driving, we suggest you leave your car in
long-term parking at the airport.
What should I do if I want to extend my vacation in the area?
This is a tough question because there is so much to do. The St. Petersburg area has three of
the top 10 beaches in the country and sites up and down the coast. We suggest you rent a car for
your extra days because, once you do, the rest of Florida is within easy reach.
What ability level do I really need to be for this tour?
The Florida Tour is rated for
Advanced Beginners
and up. In truth, the Florida Tour is perfect for just about any skill level. On one hand, this is
one of the most benign Tours we have on our schedule and is perfect for those just coming out of
Skate Camps. The skating is entirely flat and on traffic-free paved trails. On the other hand, the
trails we use are long and, for advanced skaters, you will find as much skating as you want during
the Tour.
For what type of people would you recommend this tour?
This tour is perfect for anyone wanting a skating winter vacation. Because northern states
have done better creating paved trails, there are not many places in the US where it is possible to
skate long distances on paths in a warm climate during the winter. This is also perfect (as we
stated above) for those just coming out of a Skate Camp and, because of the wide distance options
on the tour, for couples in which each person has different distance preferences.
