Paris FAQ
Note: We will send you detailed information about the tour in a
Pre-Departure Packet once you register.
What is the weather going to be like?
In August the average high is 75 and the average low 59. Generally, rain is not much of an
issue on this tour. In part, we haven't received much rain in past tours. Equally true, however, is
that we have a thousand optional activities for rain days.
Which time of the year is best to go there?
We have found that it really doesn't matter what time you are in Paris, it is always fun.
Having said that, the summer months tend to be warmer and drier than winter. For skating, August is
actually an excellent time to be in Paris because the streets are less crowded with all the
Parisianers on vacation.
What is the best way to get to the tour and where do we meet?
Paris is a major airport hub for Europe and often offers some very cheap fares from the United
States. We meet at our hotel in Paris. You are welcome to book extra nights at the same hotel
before or after the tour; we will send you information in your Pre-Departure Packet.
What should I do if I want to extend my vacation in the area?
If you have never been to France, this is your chance. The Dordogne Valley is outstanding and
has some spectacular caves and fortified villages. Provence is also amazing. The Loire Valley is
famous for its wine and is close to Paris. We would recommend taking a train to any of these three
areas and then renting a car. If you are looking for the beach, the French Riviera is always
popular but a bit farther away. For your night before or after the tour, we will recommend a hotel
in Paris. You can truly make a great vacation by traveling from Paris to our Switzerland Tour for
an extended Zephyr holiday.
What ability level do I really need to be for this tour?
The Paris Tour is rated for
Intermediates
and higher. While the skating is generally easy and flat, this is a big city. You will have to be
comfortable skating over curbs and should be confident in your ability to stop quickly when needed.
We stay together in one big group and skate slowly so we can see the sights. This provides tons of
visibility but also means you can't lag behind the group.
For what type of people would you recommend this tour?
The Paris Tour is for someone who wants a European vacation as much as a skating vacation.
Sure we skate every day but that is more the means of getting around the city than the object. If
you are interested in history, culture, art, or just other people's lives this tour is for you.
