2000 Pennsylvania Amish Tour - September 8-10, 2000
|
Friday, September 8
Our tour began in Ephrata, Pennsylvania at the Doneker's Guest House;
our home for two nights. We rolled into Lancaster County, where horse and
buggies were more plentiful than cars. We started on Friday
with a brake test and lesson, headed into an afternoon skate, and then had
an outdoor barbeque at the Guest House. Our Zephyr guides were Allan,
Barrie, Isabelle, and Matthew (who is Amish).

Olga
(in red top) loses her brake. Olga: "How do I finish this tour on one
skate?" Notice the Amish one room school house in the background. It
had outhouses that served as our restrooms. |
Isabelle,
one of Zephyr Tours' Instructors, acts as Olga's human brake, since Olga
doesn't have one on her skate! Linda is in the background.
|
Isabelle:"I'm
sure we can find something in this van for Olga to use." Olga used
Barrie's extra skates for the rest of the trip - after learning the new
braking system.

Saturday,

Our tour continued on Saturday with a day of skating, a family style
dinner and a view Mathew's Amish farm.

Two passing Amish women recognize Mathew, our Amish guide. "Hey,
don't we know you?" |
Diane
had been skating since the age of four. Certainly one of our strongest
skaters. |
We
worked up an appetite and were ready for our family style dinner. Ken, who
took all of these images is second on the left. |
The
Bird in Hand Farmer's Market
was terrific.
Here, Linda, Jack and Mathew are standing in front of a shopper's
vehicle.

one of our Zephyr Tour Instructors, in Mathew's barn showing her love for
things that move. In this case, it's Mathew's Horse. |
Sunday, September 10
Our tour ended on Sunday
