Colorado
July 13 - 17: Standard Tour
Five Days and Four Nights for $1100

Colorado is one of America's most scenic states and our Tours there are some of our most scenic tours. Our skating includes famous Summit County, historic Leadville, and the destination resort of Glenwood Springs. We spend our time on smooth paths surrounded by snow-covered mountains, green forests, and rushing streams.

We begin our Tour in the center of Summit County in the small town of Frisco, which boasts paved trails connecting to Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Dillon and Keystone. Frisco is also the nicest town in ski-crazy Summit County with a quaint small-town main street. After a shuttle to the town of Leadville, the highest incorporated city in the United States (altitude: 10,000 feet above sea level), we continue our skating on the Mineral Belt Trail. The Trail is a brand-new asphalt path that loops the town and is a fantastic way to observe Leadville’s historic mining past, as well as the nearby 14,000-foot peaks of the Rockies.

Our skate continues into a third Colorado town and onto another superb trail in nearby Glenwood Springs. The Glenwood Highway is one of the greatest highway engineering accomplishments in America – it follows the Colorado River as it winds through breathtaking Glenwood Canyon. More importantly, a mostly-flat paved trail parallels the highway for 23 incredibly scenic miles, which makes for outstanding skating. We complete our tour on another just-paved path leading from the outskirts of Aspen along the Roaring Fork River and back toward Glenwood Springs.

This tour is a Standard / Advanced Tour, meaning we will accommodate everyone from Intermediate up through advanced speed skaters.

So, now to the question on everyone’s mind: is it hilly on our Colorado tour? Yes – but not nearly as hilly as you might imagine. Many of our trails follow old railroad beds, stream beds, or Dillon Reservoir and so, while they are often at an incline or decline, they are generally not steep. With a few exceptions, the hills you would consider “steep” are on the day's long routes. We rate this tour as Intermediate because we recommend skaters be comfortable braking and controlling their speed down hills. Keep in mind that we also offer optional daily clinics to help you improve these skills.

Our accommodations in Colorado include a quaint inn just off the main street in Frisco, an historic and lovely hotel in the center of Leadville, and a famous spa hotel in Glenwood Springs. If you are looking for adventure, dazzling scenery, smooth skating trails and a taste of the “Wild West,” Colorado beckons.
