Lake Tahoe is the pearl of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in
California. The deepest alpine lake in the United States, because of its scenery, geography, and
weather the Lake Tahoe area is the recreation spot of choice for much of northern California.
It is also perfect for one of our Skating Multisport Tours.
We spend five days in the Tahoe area and experiment with a variety of activities. Day One we
meet at our lodging before heading off to skate the smooth paved trail along the gurgling Truckee
River. Day Two we hike into the heart of the Sierra Nevada, reaching and hiking along the famous
Pacific Crest Trail that extends from Canada to Mexico. Day Three we skate again, cruising along
the paved paths that parallel Lake Tahoe itself, making time for a beach stop and dip in the lake.
Day Four we have the opportunity to kayak (kayak and instruction provided) on the crystal blue
waters of the lake in the morning and mountain bike (bicycle and instruction provided) on a
relatively flat trail in a state park in the afternoon. On Day Five we finish with a stunning short
hike down to the shores of Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay.
This Tour is designed for Advanced Beginners on up. We have two or three routes each day for
all activities, meaning you don't need to be an expert skater, biker, hiker, or kayaker to enjoy
this tour. In fact, you don't need any hiking, biking, or kayaking experience at all. The skating
is mostly level with small rolling hills.
We stay two nights in each of two fantastic hotels. The first is in Squaw Valley right under
the chair lifts that serviced the Winter Olympic games. The second is in a cluster of small
B&B-type cabins in the village of Homewood right opposite the lake.
In 2002, we ran this tour for the first time to overwhelming acclaim by participants. Come see
why the lofty heights of the Sierras, the crystal blues of Lake Tahoe, and the welcoming
hospitality of California create the perfect vacation.
