Paris
No tours scheduled in 2003

Paris - the Eiffel Tower, the Musée d'Orsay, the Louvre, and too many other attractions to mention. Paris, City of Lights, is an amazing city but can be hard to grasp in one visit, two, or even more. On foot the city is so large it is hard to see everything. On the subway you miss much of the beautiful architecture that pervades the city and isn't in the tour guides.

If Paris hadn't been designed hundreds of years ago, before inline skates were re-invented and popular, one might think it was made with skating in mind. The sidewalks are wide and smooth, the area flat, and the small side streets perfect for a visit on skates. This is why Paris is the skating capital of the world!

On our Paris Tour, we spend five days getting to know the city like you probably know few other cities. We take each day to discover a different aspect of Paris.

  • Day One (Paris Highlights): We tour the city's highlights such as the Tour d'Eiffel and the Notre Dame.
  • Day Two (Paris History): We take you on a rolling tour of Parisian and French History, visiting famous landmarks, buildings, and plazas on our way.
  • Day Three (Paris Museums): We tour several world famous Paris museums including the Rodin and Picasso Museums, with time available for visiting the Louvre or the Orsay.
  • Day Four (Famous Parisians): We skate from cafe to church to apartment as we discuss the famous people who lived and made their names in Paris.
  • Day Five (Seine Sunday): We have a final, farewell skate along the Seine River on streets closed to traffic on Sundays.
Our Zephyr guide, Paris resident Martin Calnan, takes us on a daily tour of Paris. At night we visit local eateries, popular with Parisians and unknown to tourists. You can choose between an after-dinner drink and an evening skate. Paris at night is the perfect time to see the city as the streets are less crowded and the monuments brilliantly lit. We stay in a small hotel with ambience and charm but without a big western name and logo.

And the finale? We skate with 12,000 - 20,000 Parisians and other visitors at the world-famous Friday Night Skate! The Paris Friday Night Skate is a weekly event and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Growing from a small group of friends just a few years ago, somehow the local organizers have increased the numbers and fame to where 12,000 skaters regularly come out for a night of fun and exercise. (For an independent review of the Paris Friday Night Skate, see the articles in the Washington Post and London Times.)

Our pace is casual and this is the one Zephyr tour where long pants might be appropriate. We don't speed through the streets but you do need to be good at braking and negotiating curbs. Unlike our other Tours, we stay together as a group, have only one route each day, and have no van support. We are in Paris for the culture, the food, the museums, the history, and the ambience - all best seen and experienced on inline skates!
