Pennsylvania
June 13 - 15 Standard Tour
Three Days and Two Nights for $500
Imagine skating on roads where the speed is governed more by horse
and buggy than by automobile. In the famous Amish country of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, this
exists. Lancaster County is one of the few tourist destinations in the world where the attraction
is the people. It is often called the “garden spot of the world” because it has some of the richest
non-irrigated farmland in the United States. The majority of the county’s land is still used for
agriculture and most of it is owned by the Amish. This is a great place to skate. The tranquil
countryside provides a great weekend escape and there’s no better way to observe the unique Amish
culture than on skates!
Our Pennsylvania Amish Tour is a three-day weekend. On Friday, we meet in the city of
Lancaster and then shuttle to Donecker’s Guesthouse in nearby Ephrata, our home for the next two
nights. We spend the weekend leisurely skating through old covered bridges, along beautiful side
roads, past tidy white farmhouses and horse-drawn buggies, and next to schoolchildren on bicycles.
There is plenty of time for sightseeing on Friday and Saturday – we visit the famous Bird-in-Hand
Farmer’s Market, antique and quilt shops, and the Amish town of Intercourse. We also enjoy a
traditional Amish dinner at a local eatery, where you can finally learn what Shoofly Pie is.
Sunday we join the locals on the streets as they walk, ride, and pedal their way to church
services while we get in one last skate of the area. Throughout the weekend you can receive answers
to any of your questions about the lifestyle of “the plain people” from Matthew, our Amish skating
guide.
This is an unforgettable weekend and a perfect introduction to our skate tours.
